Fellowes PowerShred shredders combine incredible shredding power with remarkable security. One of the newest machines in this series is the MS-460Ci, a compact unit that has a phenomenal security rating and can shred many different items without jamming up. Here’s the skinny on this product’s strengths and weaknesses.

The Strengths:

The most amazing thing about this shredder is its security rating. Due to its designation as a microshred shredder, the MS-460Ci has a terrific Level 4 security rating. This machine can turn a letter-sized sheet of paper into approximately 3,000 particles so all of your private information will be disposed of properly. This machine makes it easy to comply with privacy laws such as the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA).
The MS-460Ci has a 9-inch feed opening that can accept up to 12 sheets of paper at a time. The shredder can also handle plastic items such as debit/credit cards, DVD’s, and CD’s. There is a separate slot for these kinds of items.
Using this device will be a safe experience because it’s equipped with Fellowes’ popular SafeSense feature. SafeSense can tell when your hands are too close to the cutting mechanism and when that happens, it will turn the machine off immediately.
The MS-460Ci is billed as one of Fellowes’ “jam-free” products. Each unit has a paper overfeed indicator to help prevent jams from occurring in the first place, and the machine’s motor is strong enough to force excess paper through the cutters.
This device operates at a very tolerable noise level of 64 decibels.
This is a compact device that’s less than 2 feet tall, so it will be able to fit just about anywhere. There are casters on the bottom of the unit so moving it will be easy despite its 50-pound weight. Also, the machine has attractive black and silver styling so it will look great in any environment.
Finally, the MS-460Ci has two great warranties. There’s one year of coverage on the machine as a whole and the cutting mechanism is covered for up to 7 years.
The Weaknesses:

The MS-460Ci can run continuously for only 15 minutes. After that, it needs 25 minutes to cool off, which is a very long time.
The wastebasket of this device can hold up to 7.4 gallons of shreds. While that amount is good for 1 or 2 users, you should really choose a different device if more people need to share the device. One good option would be the Fellowes MS-470Ci.
Due to all of its advanced features, this product costs more than your run-of-the-mill personal-sized shredder. In fact, the cost might be too much for some would-be purchasers.
Overall, the Fellowes PowerShred MS-460Ci is highly recommended despite its long downtime. It offers security, safety, quiet and jam-free usage, and it comes with an impressive warranty. All in all, this is a terrific device that is perfect for situations in which document security is the most important consideration.
